Visual Studio Plugin to launch assembly using [System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo] throws InvalidOperationException
I’ve been trying to write a Visual Studio extension to open a solution file using System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo, but I’m running into an error, specifically the InvalidOperationException. I’ve tried many variations of the process.StartInfo, and I’m certain that the path to the assembly is correct. This error seems to occur every time I try to open the solution file, but I haven’t been able to isolate the problem.
What is going on here, and how can I fix it?

I was able to figure this out, if anyone else runs into this problem.
First, I had a local variable named psi defined in the class file in my plugin.
private System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo psi;
The problem was that the default setting for the Visual Studio extensions does not include the capability for creating an external process. In other words, my plugin was throwing an exception that it couldn’t create an external process.
To fix this, add the capability for the extension to create an external process:
