Definitive treatment was cerebrospinal fluid shunting in 5 patients and cyst fenestration in one patient. In the patients that were treated with a ventricular shunt, adequate symptom control was achieved in all 5 patients, whereas the patient treated with cyst fenestration experienced a relapse. Only three patients suffered from persistent headache (follow-up of 1.5 years). Two of these patients were treated successfully with a ventricular shunt, whereas the third patient required repeat cyst fenestration. No complications were reported. Intracranial arachnoid cysts are common in pediatric patients with headache. We have attempted to characterize the natural history of these lesions.
