Brushes are used to change the appearance of an image. Photoshop has a wide variety of brushes, from widely used, to obscure, and everything in between. Photoshop brushes are grouped into different categories. Some categories are designed specifically for certain types of work or reasons for applying them. For example, the flame brush is widely used to create realistic flames in 3D objects. I’ll show you a few different ways to apply different brushes, from basic painting to more artistic effects.

TIP: Use a brush like the flame brush to fill a large area of your image without accidentally touching another object.

Basic Brushes

This photo was heavily edited using several basic brushes.

1. Create a new document and add a new layer. Create a new sketch object (Shift+Cmd+J) by selecting the Rectangle tool and a small brush size (4 pixels for a soft brush and 10 pixels for a hard brush).

2. Using the paint bucket tool, fill the area with bright blue by adding over the existing texture.

3. Open up the Brush panel and adjust the settings. Change the Shape Dynamics to Soft for a soft brush tip (they are measured by pixels) and the Amount to 12 for the opacity value.

4. Paint the color over the background, then erase the last stroke by selecting the Clear Tool and selecting a blue color for its settings (other brush options are available).

5. Change the Brush Tip Shape to Hard for a harder brush shape.

6. Find some other brushes and apply them to the area. For example, add a hard brush tip to the sketch, a soft brush tip to the flames, a Hard Color Overlay brush on the light and a Color Overlay brush with a soft brush tip on the ground.

7. Lower the opacity value to make the brush color blend

Programs & Files

Designers should never run Windows programs on Mac as they may not run properly.

Your interface will be completely different from that of the Windows version. Learn more about that in this tutorial.

The programs we use in Photoshop Elements are:

Photoshop Elements

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud

Adobe Bridge

Mac OS

Step 1: Grab a Photo

I am going to start by using a photo of my son looking cute.

Step 2: Open the File and Open the Photo

If the photo you want to use is not already open, you will have to open it. To do so, click File then Open, locate your photo and open it. If it is already open, you can skip to the next step.

If you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements installed, the image is open in your image editor. If you do not have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, your image will be open in the Mac or Windows default image editor.

In Photoshop Elements, there are two ways to open the image:

Go to File > Open and navigate to the photo you want to open. Click Open.

Go to File > Open and select Browse to locate the photo you want to open. Click Open.

To change the name of the image, you can either double-click the photo or click File then Rename.

Step 3: Fill the Photo with Colors

To change the colors of a photo, click Edit > Fill or press Ctrl + I (Cmd + I on Mac). You will then see a palette of colors.

Click the color you want to use on the palette. If you don’t see the color, click the Color Inspector icon in the top left of the palette to change which colors are available.

Click OK to apply the changes.

Step 4: Edit the Photo

Photoshop Elements has a lot of different tools for editing. You will find most of them in the Home tab.

However, some of the tools, like View, Adjust, Panoramic, Artistic, Expressions, Compose and Crop are in the Creative tab.

Let’s start with the tools in the Home tab.

The influence of visual field loss on visual metacognition.
Participants with low vision often apply a systematic strategy to avoid sensory failures due to visual field loss. The current study investigated whether this strategy can be applied to high acuity vision, which allowed us to test if the influence of vision on metacognition differs by anisometropia. Seventeen participants with anisometropic amblyopia, aged 12-18 years, were asked to match contrast thresholds between low- and high-contrast sinusoidal gratings of a given spatial frequency. The discrimination acuity was assessed with a three-alternative forced-choice task and the contrast discrimination threshold was obtained for the amblyopic and fellow eye. A visual acuity measure was also obtained. Differences between the visual acuity and contrast discrimination of the amblyopic eye and the fellow eye were related to the metacognitive ability as measured by performance on a checkerboard detection task. Using a commonly observed practice to avoid sensory failures, participants demonstrated a perceptual bias away from the peak of the contrast-intensity function for the amblyopic eye. Participants performed better on the simple acuity task when the contrast of the amblyopic eye was high. This finding was related to the checkerboard detection task but not the contrast discrimination task. Anisometropia can influence metacognitive ability but this influence is not due to a general improvement in acuity.Rakshita Banerjee

How do I calculate the frequency of each specific symbol in a given string in MATLAB?

Let’s say that I have a vector of strings, say
a = [‘abcdasdf’, ‘123az1.2’, ‘abcsd’, ’45tt’, ’45tt’]

I want to find the most frequent symbol in each string. So, what I

Which checkbox to use depending on if current row data is checked

I have a form with several checkboxes. Depending on the value of the current row (in this case the first one) i want to check or uncheck the checkboxes depending if the values in the 2 other cells are filled in. The checkboxes are named according to a specific if function.
I tried several things, including, if(myVariable == true) {…} elseif(myVariable == false) {…} but this doesnt seem to work.
Here is the code I have right now.
Private Sub Form_Current()

If myVariable = True Then
‘check the first checkbox
ElseIf myVariable = False Then
‘uncheck the first checkbox
End If

Why don’t you simply use a Select Case?
Private Sub Form_Current()
Select Case myVariable
Case True
Checkbox1.Checked = True
Case False
Checkbox1.Checked = False
Case Else
Checkbox1.Checked = Not Checkbox1.Checked
End Select
End Sub

Maybe you can elaborate a little on what you mean by “and the other 2.”
Edit: I had to go back to my VB6 days to grasp what you’re trying to do, so I think the above should be fine. If you want another way, you could write a Function:
Private Function SelectTrueOrFalse(checkboxName As String, _
Optional checkboxChecked As Boolean = True) As Boolean
Select Case myVariable
Case True
Checkbox1.Checked = checkboxChecked
Case False
Checkbox1.Checked = Not checkboxChecked
Case Else
Checkbox1.Checked = Not checkboxChecked
End Select
SelectTrueOrFalse = Checkbox1.Checked
End Function

Or use a bit more function logic:
Private Function SelectTrueOrFalse(check
