Q:
How to use Math.Round correctly?
I try to use Math.Round with the following two parameters:
the decimal value and
a certain target precision (from 1 to 6)
With that I want to get a new decimal value, so that it has the target precision if it is possible and the decimal value rounded to 1 decimal digit if not possible.
For example, I want the following result:
target precision: 5
decimal value: 19.1
result: 19.0
target precision: 6
decimal value: 1.9
result: 2.0
target precision: 5
decimal value: 4.92
result: 4.9
My Code looks like:
var targetDecimalPrecision = Convert.ToInt32(txtDecimalPrecision.Text);
var resultDecimal = Math.Round(decimal.Parse(txtDecimalValue.Text), targetDecimalPrecision);
I understand, that there is no function Math.Round(“string value”, targetDecimalPrecision) in.NET, so I have to implement it.
Is my Code right?
Can I improve it?

Just to add on to @jcolebrand’s answer, you also don’t need to convert the value to a decimal, because the.Net framework will do that for you.
You can simply do:
decimal resultDecimal = Math.Round(Convert.ToDecimal(txtDecimalValue.Text), txtDecimalPrecision.Text);
A:
Math.Round(decimal.Parse(txtDecimalValue.Text));
